Congregational Hymns
If you wish to have a congregational hymn after the processional, the
following are generally known by the majority of protestant and
catholic communities.  Select from the following Hymns.   Hymn
accompaniments can include instruments, vocal descants,
choir and congregation.

These stylings are intended to provide an idea of possibilities and
are performed on variety of organs, both large and modest,  using
pipe and digital resources.   They will vary depending on the organ
and the skill and creativity of individual organists.  The Hymns
below are in the process of being recorded and
additional items will be added.

The great festive hymns of the church add meaning and depth to
your service and serve as an invitation to your guests to become
active participants in your wedding service.

If the Hymn is not in the Hymnbook you should add a space
to print the words in your program.

Joyful, Joyful,  We Adore Thee -  Hymn To Joy
Praise to the Lord, The Almighty - Lobe Den Herren
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling - Hyfrydol
Now Thank We All Our God - Nun Danket
For the Beauty of the Earth - Dix
Guide Me O Great Jehovah - Cwm Rhondda
Crown Him With Many Crowns - Diademata
The Star Spangled Banner - National Hymn
1990's Anthony at the Cathedral Organ, LA.
I Vow to Thee, My Country - Thaxted
Make Me a Channel of Your Peace - Channel Of Peace

Responsorial Hymns
These hymns require a cantor or singer to proclaim the verse and
assist the congregation in singing the responsive refrain.  We
recommend that you use professional soloists
for the highest quality music.

God is Love -  Richard Proulx
Gather us Together - Owen Alstott
Taste and See - Joel Martinson
Sing to the Lord -  Owen Alstott
I Am the Living Bread -  William Lovelock

Strings
String quartets, trios, and other instrumental combinations are a
delightful addition to the wedding musical fare.  The organ can
participate in certain music while much of the repertoire is well
served with strings alone, reserving the organ for grand
processionals and postludes.

Below you will find some of the best known selections.  Harp is also a
nice touch to add to an ambitious pre-nuptial concert.

Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring -  J. S. Bach (Harp, synth, ensemble)
"Air " from Suite in D -  J. S. Bach
"Divertmento" - W. A. Mozart
Ode to Joy - Ludwig van Beethoven
Clair de Lune - M. Ravel ( Synth, elect. piano)
"Flower Duet" from Lakeme - L. Delibes (British Airways TV commercial)

Cannon - J. Pachelbel (Organ & Strings)
Spring - A. Vivaldi (from "The Four Seasons")

The Music of the Service
The above lists of music include some of the best and well
known selections appropriate to weddings.  These are
samples of various styles and sounds from organ alone,
trumpet, brass choir, and solo vocalists.    Additional
selections can be played for you during your
wedding planning sessions.

Vocalist / Instrumentalists
Anthony maintains professional relationships with many of
the finest musicians in Houston.  Generally, fees of c.$125 -
$200 per musician are standard... but do vary outside of
this range.  Instrumental groups (quartets, trios) are
available at current rates. (Please inquire)

Please note:  If you are considering hiring your own singer
(or having a family friend sing) it is wise to consider
professional musicians rather than amateurs.  Unless an
amateur musician is of exceptional ability, talent and
experience, your music program will be better served with
the use of professional musicians.
Planning
Music for the wedding should be planned jointly by the
couple in consultation with the Director of Music/Organist
and wedding coordinator of your church.  The emphasis
should be on music which derives from scriptural
sources and, by its very nature, enhances
the union of the couple in Christ.

The singing of hymns with congregation is an excellent way
of involving those gathered to share in the occasion, as well
as to invoke God's blessing on the bride and groom.
Responsorial hymns are also a musically interesting
option especially during communion..

Most mainline, historic denominations recognize the organ
as the principal instrument of divine worship.  The historic
pipe organ or the very fine electronic equivalent
instruments can provide definitive performances of the
great music of the Church, its hymns
and the concert literature for organ.

Whether used by itself or in conjunction with other
instruments, the organ sets the festive tone of the
ceremony, especially during the prelude,
processional and recessional.

Mr. Pessarra is familiar with organs of any size from
modest 2 manual electronic or pipe organs to 4 manual full
concert instruments.  He will use the resources of any
instrument to the fullest and is available as a wedding
organist, substitute or event organist.  Before contracting
with Anthony as your organist, you should check
with the church organist or music director
for any protocols that apply.

Statement of Purpose
We feel that musicians who work with wedding events have
a  special responsibility to model excellence in music
performance.  They have a distinct and crucial role to play
by including aesthetically high quality music executed with
a high order of performance ability.  This attention to
detail in music and performance has the ability to make
the rituals and ceremony of the wedding service
more powerful and more engaging.
