Heritage
The family name "Pessarra" has been traced back for over 900 years, where it begins in Italy and Spain, moving into Belgium and the Germanic states as the centuries go by, and from there to America in the mid 1800's.
The surname Pessarra in its many iterations, is connected with and related to among others, Francisco Pizarro, the conqueror of Peru, as well as Camille Pissarro, the great French artist, and the Passara family, of the old Patrician nobility from Cattaro, Italy, In addition more than 30% of the village population of Oria, Salerno Province, Italy, have the surname Passaro.
In Belgium and Germany, there were many forebears working in the diverse enterprises of human-kind. Current distant relatives are kapelmeisters and organists, business owners, and vintners, with a "Pesara" wine made and marketed in Germany.
In the mid 1800's, my great grandfather emigrated to this country. His son became a harbor pilot and a grocery market owner. His sons became Lawyers and Accountants and were graduates of Baylor University.
The musical genetic heritage of the Germanic and English influences combined through the alembic of my parents, once again as it has in the past, arose and blossomed forth through me. It resides with my sister and her lineage, perhaps to awaken again in future generations in the full flower of musical expression.
The American family consists of computer engineers, amateur and professional musicians, actresses, business owners and financial officers. Three generations of children are graduates of Baylor where a public portion of the Pessarra legacy may be found in the Sam & Helen Pessarra Law Computer Research Center Baylor University, Waco, Texas
